The Board of Examiners in Optometry Continuing Education Continuing competency requirements for renewal of an optometry license can be found in the statutes and regulations. A license cannot be renewed unless the continued competency requirements in AS 08.72.181 and Article 2 of 12 AAC 48 have been met. Active Duty military licensees are generally NOT exempt from continued competency requirements of AS 08.72.181 and 12 AAC 48.200 and 12 AAC 448.210 with the following exemption: 12 AAC 48.230.
