Examinations

For applicants applying for Certification by Examination as a Direct-Entry Midwife, the applicant must meet the application requirements and pass the examination required in 12 AAC 14.300.

The examination required for certification as a direct-entry midwife is the national examination prepared and graded by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). Applications to take the Northern American Registry of Midwives Examination (NARM) must be received in the division Juneau office at least 60 days before the date of the examination for which you are applying.

To be considered for examination, the following documents must be received by the deadline date:

  • Items 1 - 3 (A&B), 4 and 5 listed on the front cover sheet of the examination application.
  • Academic Program Completion form (#08-4215b) completed by an official from an approved course of study program from Via Vita Midwifery Foundation (AK); Ancient Arts Midwifery Institute or Midwife to Be. 

OR

  • An official transcript, diploma, or certificate of graduation, sent directly to the division from a MEAC accredited institution where the applicant completed the course of study.

Once the above documents are received and fully complete, the application will be sent to the board for review and approval. If approved, division staff will notify both the applicant and NARM of approval to take the NARM exam. The applicant must then contact NARM to register for the examination.
