How We Can Help

We can investigate complaints that fall within our regulatory authority.

We Can Investigate

  • Claim-handling delays
  • Claim denials
  • Unsatisfactory settlements
  • Non-renewals
  • Cancellations
  • Delays in premium refunds
  • High pressure sales tactics
  • Underwriting errors
  • Conflicting information from your insurer
  • Other insurance-related disputes

We Cannot

  • Give legal advice, act as lawyer or claims adjuster, or interfere in a pending lawsuit
  • Recommend one insurer or agent over another
  • Make liability decisions/determine who is at fault
  • Determine who is being truthful when accounts of what happened differ
  • Resolve a complaint if the only evidence is your word against the word of others
  • Address issues we can’t legally enforce

If Your Issue Falls Outside Our Regulatory Authority

If your issue falls outside our regulatory authority, you may have additional appeal, complaint, or legal recourse available to you.

The Alaska Department of Law Consumer Resources page lists many consumer protection agencies and organizations.

If your complaint is an issue with a medical provider, the Alaska State Medical Association's grievance committee may be able to assist you.
