Alaska Broadband Office The Alaska Broadband Office (ABO) was created on August 9, 2022, when Governor Dunleavy signed Alaska House Bill 363 into law. The State of Alaska had been engaged in broadband work for several years, most recently highlighted through efforts of the Governor’s Task Force on Broadband in their Final Report issued in November of 2021. Formal broadband efforts were then transferred to the Commissioner’s Office in the Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development. The Alaska Broadband Office oversees the State of Alaska's efforts to ensure all Alaskans have high quality, affordable internet. The Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program, established under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) passed by Congress in November 2021, allocate funds to expand broadband access for underserved and unserved communities in Alaska. Alaska Broadband Grant Program Update: 2/2/2026 – Provisional Grant Awards Updated Following Best and Final Offer Round The ABO submitted its Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Final Proposal to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) on Thursday, October 16, 2025. During review, the NTIA selected seven projects that required additional evaluation. The NTIA requested the ABO solicit a Best and Final Offer (BAFO) from all applicants for the Broadband Serviceable Locations (BSLs) associated with the seven projects. The ABO solicited BAFOs from the provisional awardees of the seven rejected projects, as well as from applicants to the Alaska Broadband Grant Program who had previously submitted an application for a subset of the BSLs associated with the seven projects. The BAFO-revised Provisional Awards are listed below. The ABO is awaiting final approval by the NTIA. The Final Proposal data files have also been updated. They can be found on the Alaska Broadband Grant Program page. Please send any questions to ced.abo.general@alaska.gov.
