Regulation of Nursing Home Administrators The Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing staffs the nursing home administrator program. The Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development adopts regulations to carry out laws governing nursing home administrators in Alaska. It makes final licensing decisions and takes disciplinary actions against people who violate licensing laws. Fraud Alert: Impersonation of Licensing Investigations Unit Some licensees have recently reported being contacted by individuals falsely claiming to represent the Professional Licensing Investigations Unit. Information Regarding Required Examinations Attention Exam Candidates and Prospective Examinees: The National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB) has transitioned its examinations to a new structure where online applications must be filed through the new online application system, Clarus. Examinees for licensure as a licensed nursing home administrator will need to pass a 110-item “core of knowledge” section and a 55-item line of service section that are administered through PSI services. NAB’s examinations test for entry-level knowledge in long term care administration. The Nursing Home Administrator Exam (NHA) has been developed and administered by NAB for decades and is taken by over 2,000 candidates across the nation annually. All applicants seeking first-time licensure via examination in Alaska must first submit an initial application (form #08-4020) to the department to request approval to apply for the NHA Examination. Paper Application If you are seeking approval of an Administrator-in-Training (AIT) program as required in 12 AAC 46.041, you must submit a Nursing Home Administrator application (form #08-4020), application fee, and the AIT Program Proposal form (#08-4020b included in the application packet) and receive approval from the department before beginning the program. Regulations (also called the Alaska Administrative Code) are rules adopted by the department to implement, interpret, and make specific the statutes. Both statutes and regulations have the force of law. AS 08.70 and regulations 12 AAC 46 specifically apply to nursing home administrators.
