PESI is approved to provide CEU’s for renewal of licensure in the State of Alaska; they are approved by the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (12 AAC 62.320(b)(2)(Q). As of January 31, 2016 CEU’s accrued through PESI are NOT acceptable for renewal of certification with the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). Please contact the division if you have further questions.

The Board of Professional Counselors is staffed by the Division of Corporations, Business, and Professional Licensing. The board consists of four professional counselors and one public member. Board members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Legislature.

The Board adopts regulations to carry out laws governing the practice professional counseling in Alaska. It makes final licensing decisions and takes disciplinary actions against people who violate licensing laws. The board offers a public comment period at each meeting. Meeting agendas are available from the licensing examiner.

Please Note:

The licensing process may take up to three months or longer after all information is received, depending on the date of the board meeting.
