VTNE Examinations

VTNE applicants must be registered and be approved to sit for the exam through the American Associate of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB). Visit the American Association of Veterinary State Board's Website for locations and more information. The VTNE application never closes now, so candidates can apply at any time. Approved and registered applicants will have access to select between 2 exam windows.

• February 15 - April 15 Examination Window
  All application materials must be received by AAVSB by March 15 to test in this window. On the job applicants must submit the Veterinary Technician National Examination On-The-Job Training Eligibility Form to AAVSB for approval.
• May 15 - July 15 Examination Window
  All application materials must be received by AAVSB by June 15 to test in this window. On the job applicants must submit the Veterinary Technician National Examination On-The-Job Training Eligibility Form to AAVSB for approval.
• August 15 – October 15 Examination Window
  All application materials must be received by AAVSB by September 15 to test in this window. On the job applicants must submit the Veterinary Technician National Examination On-The-Job Training Eligibility Form to AAVSB for approval.
• November 15 – January 15 Examination Window
  All application materials must be received by AAVSB by December 15 to test in this window. On the job applicants must submit the Veterinary Technician National Examination On-The-Job Training Eligibility Form to AAVSB for approval.

NAVLE Examinations

NAVLE applicants must be registered and approved to sit for the exam through the International Council of Veterinary Assessment (ICVA). Visit the International Council for Veterinary Assessment Website for the latest information.

2026-2027 Testing Windows

Starting in Fall of 2025, ICVA will be offering 3 annual testing windows to take the NAVLE instead of 2.

• Summer 2026 Examination Window: July 13 - August 8, 2026
  The application window for the Summer exam is April 2, 2026 – May 7, 2026. All application materials must be received by ICVA by May 7, 2026.
• Fall/Winter 2026 Examination Window: October 12 – November 14, 2026
  All application materials must be received by ICVA by July 15, 2026.
• Spring 2027 Examination Window: March 1 – March 20, 2027
  All application materials must be received by ICVA by January 7, 2027.
• Summer 2027 Examination Window: July 12 – August 7, 2027
  All application materials must be received by ICVA by May 7, 2027.

**Please note that the eligibility criteria for senior student NAVLE candidates will only allow for up to two NAVLE attempts prior to graduation.
