Examination Information Effective June 11, 2026 NEW theory written examinations will be administered for Tattooing and Permanent Cosmetic Coloring. These updated examinations are titled “National Tattooing Theory Examination” and “National Permanent Makeup Theory Examination”. These theory written examinations have been published in English, Korean, Spanish, and Vietnamese. Please review the updated Candidate Information Bulletin (CIB) provided on the NIC and Prov websites. https://nictesting.org https://provexam.com Examination Information: Effective December 7, 2020 the Practical Examination component for licensure was removed and replaced with a Proficiency Examination. Proficiency examinations must be administered by the school or Instructor (apprenticeship) at the conclusion of training in accordance with 12 AAC 09.050. Proof of passing a proficiency examination must be documented on Completion of Training forms. Students/apprentices who completed training prior to December 2020 still must provide proof of passing a Proficiency Examination by requesting their school/Instructor complete and submit an updated Completion of Training form. Passing a written examination is still required to complete the licensure process.
