Alcohol & Marijuana Control Office

AMCO Office is closed for in-person service on Wednesdays.

Our office will process in-person Marijuana Handler Permit requests Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4 pm.

Please ensure you have all required documents outlined in the checklist.

Marijuana Handler Permit Application and Process:

Required Items for New/Renewal Marijuana Handler Permits:

  • Marijuana Handler Permit Cover Sheet and Checklist (click to download)
  • $50.00 Fee. Acceptable methods of payment inlcude debit or credit card, personal or cashiers check, or money order. No Cash.
    1. If paying with personal or cashiers check or money order. It must be made payable to the State of Alaska.
  • Alaska Name-Based Criminal History Background Check (click to find locations)
    1. Background Checks are processed through local Department of Public Safety Offices. NOT through myAlaska. Background Checks must be dated within 30 days of your submitted handler permit application.
  • Certificate of Course Completion (From ONE of the Marijuana Handler Permit Training courses listed below)
  • One form of valid State/Federal issued identification
    1. Acceptable forms of identification include Driver's License and Passport.
  • One 2x2 "Passport Style" Photo or Color Printed "Selfie"
    1. Although we recommend you provide a photo, we do have the capacity to take your photo in our Anchorage office.

      "Selfie" Guidelines:
      - Clear photo
      - Body in the center of the photo, face camera directly with a neutral expression.
      - Photo is taken from shoulders to top of head, eyes are clearly visible
      - No accessories such as sunglasses/hats/etc. unless head coverings are worn for religious or medical purposes
      - Plain/simple background, without shadows/texture/objects/lines

  • Completed Replacement Form.
  • $50.00 Fee per 3 AAC 306.100(e). Acceptable methods of payment inlcude debit or credit card, personal or cashiers check, or money order. No Cash.
    1. If paying with personal or cashiers check or money order. It must be made payable to the State of Alaska.
  • One form of valid State/Federal issued identification
    1. Acceptable forms of identification include Driver's License and Passport.

Disqualifying Criminal History for Marijuana Handlers
  • Felony conviction in Alaska within the last five years;
  • Currently on parole for a felony conviction in Alaska;
  • Class A misdemeanor conviction involving a controlled substance other than a schedule VIA controlled substance, in Alaska within the last two years;
  • Class A misdemeanor conviction relating to selling, furnishing, or distributing marijuana, in Alaska within the last two years;
  • Currently under indictment for an offense listed above.

Marijuana Handler Permit Training Courses

A marijuana establishment and each licensee, employee, or agent of the marijuana establishment who sells, cultivates, manufactures, tests, or transports marijuana or a marijuana product, or who checks the identification of a consumer or visitor, must obtain a marijuana handler permit from the board before being licensed or beginning employment at a marijuana establishment, per 3 AAC 306.700.
