Alcohol & Marijuana Control Office

The Anchorage Office will process walk in Marijuana Handler Permits on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30am to 11:00am.

The Fairbanks Office will process walk in Marijuana Handler Permits on Wednesdays from 9:00am to Noon.

Starting MAY 23, 2018 you will also be required to submit your Alaska Criminal Justice Information (a criminal history background check). No Handler Card will be issued without this. How to obtain one can be found here: https://dps.alaska.gov/Statewide/R-I/Background/WalkIn

Items needed to obtain a Marijuana Handlers Card:

  1. Payment in the form of check, money order or cashier check.
  2. A Standard Cover Page found on your MyAlaska.
  3. A Valid photo ID (A Copy if mailing in application)
  4. A 2x2 Passport Photo (If Mailing in Application)
  5. Alaska Criminal Justice Information (Starting May 23, 2018)

The AMCO Office only accepts Permit Fee payment in the form of check, money order or cashier check payable to the State of Alaska. Marijuana Handlers Card Fee is $50.00.

  • A passport size photo is required for all mail in applications.
  • Handlers may not work in restricted access areas until they obtain their Handler Permit Card. A completed course certificate does not suffice to work in restricted access areas.
  • There is currently no Alaska residency restriction on Marijuana Handler Permits
  • Marijuana Handler Cover Pages are found on your "MyAlaska" Page where you initialized your application

As of May 1, 2017, there will be a $50.00 fee for a replacement Marijuana Handler Permit Card under 3 AAC 306.100(e).

Marijuana Handler Permit Training

A marijuana establishment and each licensee, employee, or agent of the marijuana establishment who sells, cultivates, manufactures, tests, or transports marijuana or a marijuana product, or who checks the identification of a consumer or visitor, must obtain a marijuana handler permit from the board before being licensed or beginning employment at a marijuana establishment, per 3 AAC 306.700.
