Research & Analysis

Lien Watch

The purpose of Lien Watch is to identify community entities struggling with cash flow or management issues, as indicated by active tax liens or court-related debts. DCRA uses this information to identify communities that may need technical assistance to build local utility management capacity in rural Alaska. This information is updated every two months.

Lien Watch lists unresolved state and federal tax liens and court judgments levied against municipal, tribal, and utility entities in communities with less than 2,500 people. The information herein is based on public domain lien data dating from May 1, 2007 to December 31, 2016, as extracted from the records of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Recorder’s Office.
