Notice of Adopted Changes to the Regulations of the State Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Board

On June 3, 2022, the State Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Board adopted regulation changes in Title 12, Chapter 54 of the Alaska Administrative Code. The amendment adds two new sections to 12 AAC 54 establishing standards and processes for applying for a temporary military courtesy license to practice as a physical therapist, physical therapist assistant, occupational therapist, or occupational therapist assistant. The regulation changes were reviewed and approved by the Department of Law, signed and filed by the Lieutenant Governor (or designee) on January 13, 2023, and will go into effect on February 12, 2023. Please click here to see the filed version of the regulations.

The new regulation changes will be printed in Register 245, April 2023 of the Alaska Administrative Code.

The State Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Board is staffed by the Division of Corporation and Professional Licensing. The Board consists of seven members: three licensed physical therapists or two physical therapists and a physical therapist assistant; three licensed occupational therapists or two occupational therapist and one occupational therapy assistant; and one public member with no direct financial interest in the health care industry. Board members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Legislature.

The Board adopts regulations to carry out laws governing the practice of physical therapy and occupational therapy in Alaska. It makes final licensing decisions and takes disciplinary actions against people who violate licensing laws. The Board meets a minimum of two times a year and offers a public comment period at each meeting.
