Notice of Proposed Regulations

The Department proposes to update the Electrical Administrators’ regulations relating to licensing requirements.

Written comments deadline: 4:30 p.m. on December 23, 2022.

The Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing staffs the electrical administrator program. The Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development adopts regulations to carry out laws governing electrical administrators in Alaska. It makes final licensing decisions and takes disciplinary actions against people who violate licensing laws.

Electricians are regulated by the Department of Labor, Labor Standards and Safety, Mechanical Inspection Section.

  • Controls and Control Wiring (CNTL)
  • Inside Communication (IC)
  • Residential Wiring (RW)
  • Outside Communications (OC)
  • Unlimited Commercial Wiring (UCW)
  • Unlimited Line Work (UL)
  • Construction Contractors

Electrical Administrator License

The Electrical Administrator license is required for at least one employee of a valid Alaskan Contractor that performs work that is covered by the National Electric (NEC) or National Electric Safety (NESC) codes. It is a supervisory license only and does not allow the license holder to perform work covered by the NEC or the NESC.
