Fingerprint Information

Fingerprint cards are not required for the 2025-2027 license period. Fingerprint cards will be required for the 2027-2029 licensing renewal period. New fingerprint cards must be submitted every six years, in accordance with 12 AAC 79.200(b)(2)

Licensure Requirements

Massage Therapist by Examination
  • 625 hours of massage therapy education from an approved massage school. Verification must be sent directly to us by the massage therapy school.
  • Prior to applying, if you do not meet the 625-hour transcript requirement it is recommended that you attend an approved massage school to complete the education necessary to meet the transcript requirements.

    Sec. 08.61.100. Definitions. In this chapter,

    (1) "approved massage school" means a massage therapy school or program that

    (A) has an authorization to operate from the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education or a similar entity in another state; or

    (B) is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency;

  • Successful completion of the MBLEX or the NCBTMB Exam. Verification must be sent directly to us by the agency. (NCBTMB if taken before 02/01/2015)
  • Current CPR Certification documentation from a course the meets at least one of the following criteria:
    1. Course Completed through the American Red Cross;
    2. Course Completed through the American Heart Association;
    3. Course Completed through the American Safety and Health Institute;
    4. A course that adheres to the most recent American Heart Association guidelines.
    5. A course compliant with current Joint Commission standards.
    The CPR Course may be completed in-person or online.
  • 2 hours of safety education in Bloodborne Pathogens and Universal Precautions

Massage Therapist by Credentials

You must be currently licensed in one or more of the following states to be eligible for applying by credentials: Alabama, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington.

  • Current CPR Certification documentation from a course the meets at least one of the following criteria:
    1. Course Completed through the American Red Cross;
    2. Course Completed through the American Heart Association;
    3. Course Completed through the American Safety and Health Institute;
    4. A course that adheres to the most recent American Heart Association guidelines.
    5. A course compliant with current Joint Commission standards.
    The CPR Course may be completed in-person or online.

Renewal or Reinstatement
  • A massage therapist license lapsed for three years or more is not eligible for reinstatement and requires a new application for licensure.
  • A massage therapist must document 16 hours of continuing education earned on or after October 1, 2021 and prior to the date of their application. Continued education courses may be completed in person or online. Continued education certificates require an instructor signature.
  • Coursework must be completed through a local, state, or national professional organization that serves the massage therapy profession, including:
    1. Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals
    2. The American Massage Therapy Association
    3. The Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards
    4. The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork
  • Review the Unacceptable Continued Education List.
  • A minimum of two (2) of the 16 continuing education credits must be in the subject of ethics.
  • An applicant may receive two (2) hours of the 16 continuing education credits for completion of hands-on cardiopulmonary resuscitation through the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, American Safety and Health Institute, or an equivalent organization.
    The CPR Course may be completed in-person or online.
  • An applicant may receive two (2) hours of the 16 continuing education credits through the attendance of a Board of Massage Therapist Board Meeting. To receive these hours, the licensee must email the board right after the meeting to ask for written verification of their attendance in place of a CE certificate for their records.
