Statewide Gateway Integration

Gateway Integration

Gateway Integration provides a streamlined clinical workflow for providers by allowing users to query the PDMP database within an Electronic Health Record (EHR)/Pharmacy Management System (PMS). The integration eliminates the need for providers to navigate to the web portal, log in, and enter the patient’s information. Instead, the EHR/PMS automatically initiates a patient query and returns a view of the patient’s controlled substance prescription history report directly within the provider's clinical workflow.

Through a partnership with stakeholders at the Alaska Department of Health (DOH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) grant, the State of Alaska is now able to offer the PMP Gateway Integration option to all Healthcare Entities (HCEs) in the state. This collaboration allows DCCED to utilize federal grant funding to support integration licensee fees for prescribers and pharmacies in Alaska.

CBPL will be offering Gateway Integration to all end users as part of a pilot program designed to improve use of the PDMP. Funding for this program will continue based on availability of grant funding and increased utilization by providers in the state.

Please see the Welcome Packet and Provider Sheet for more information. Please note: Not all EHR/PMS vendors are currently integrated. If your vendor is not integrated, please submit an integration request form and Bamboo Health will work with your vendor to facilitate the development.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I still need to register for an PDMP account at https://alaska.pmpaware.net/login if my EHR/PMS is integrated?
Yes. Any prescriber or pharmacist will still need to have an active account with the PDMP in order to view patient medication histories through integration. If you do not have an PDMP account, you will not be able to access the PDMP through your EHR/PMS.

Why can’t delegates access the PDMP through integration?
Integration streamlines the patient medication query process, so prescribers and pharmacists do not have to delegate their search authority to an authorized agent. Prescribers and pharmacists can directly view a patient medication history during their clinical workflow. Delegates can still access the PDMP on a provider’s behalf utilizing their own login information through the web portal.

What if I use a vendor that hasn’t integrated with the PMP Gateway program?
Bamboo Health can work with your vendor to develop a connection to the PMP Gateway software. Please submit the Integration request form to start the process.
